Tetris House

In the manner of a construction set, the rafters are piling up and shift to create the living space of this small Japanese house weekend. Another look at the wooden architecture.

Designed by the Japanese architecture studio Sou Fujimoto ArchitectsThe House NGH is a small weekend house that overlooks the banks of the River Kuma in Kumakura, Japan.

Cubic form, it is entirely made from a stack of rafters and cedar blocks crossed and staggered. A simple and effective principle.

These interconnections are born and cuts the interior spaces, dining area, sitting area, mezzanine or storage space. The vertical and horizontal planes are split and shift. Level differences are increasing.

Between the rafters, interstices with irregular shapes are replacing doors and windows. Some clever shifts allow the inhabitant to improvise its foundations, its tables or shelves where they like.
