Based in Pantin since 1992 with its production site "workshops Hermes," Hermes company decided to perpetuate its presence by expanding with the City of Hermès sectors, a major program of activities in the city center. This project led to the architects of the agency IBLJ Architecture imagine 4 new buildings and renovate existing volumes 3. A new island that slides on a plot of 16000m² very disjointed, which now houses the City of trades in multiple program of workshops, offices, restaurants, creche, gym, storages of museum reserve , exhibition, logistics, parking.
The coherence between these 4 new buildings and the existing ones takes place through a vacuum, by the creation of several gardens which are linked together. The buildings of the Cité des Métiers are sober, sometimes massive, often monochrome. They blend into the tones of the neighborhood with its brick facades (manufacturer: Wienerberger) in pinkish-gray, brown or white tones, pierced with high vertical windows and covered with a large faceted zinc roof (VMZ Structural Roof of VMZINC). They see each other differently whether one is on the street side or on the interior side, on the one hand durability, an idea of strength and mass, on the other transparency, lightness and privacy.
Slight and many vibrations cling and disrupt the look: the bricks are textured, molded by hand, slightly staggered in their alignment, sometimes glazed and shiny, windows have varying depths tables, brick or colored sheet. zinc roofs are bent like from the inside, without following regular and conventional slopes, giving them a unique and vibrant character.
