Rather than reinvent a singular inwardness, the Nendo studio consists of a porous space where the boundaries seem to fade.

Built in 1977 Sogetsu Kaikan building also housed the offices of the architect Kenzo Tange in 10e floor. The architecture of the building is mainly characterized by an exterior curtain wall reflecting the greenery of the Akasaka Estate opposite. The new interior was designed to correspond with the lines of the plan L-shaped and diagonal distribution of the original building. The concept implemented by the studio Nendo reproduced, partitioning, external curtain wall inside. Aluminum window frames have been reproduced exactly. Glass many tests were carried out with different filters applied directly on the material while playing with paints and linings. The studio Nendo had at heart to accurately reproduce the color and reflection of the original half-mirrors of the facade. To accentuate mimicry between inside and outside, the flooring was installed symmetrically with respect to the wall of the curtain wall. The result is an interior design of a coherent respecting the architecture designed by Kenzo Tange.
