Construire en papier aluminium

For this low-cost construction operation, the architects of Heatherwick Studio have designed a cladding made of a simple metal baking paper reinforced foam injected. Technically efficient and plastically surprising.

The Agency of Architecture and Design London Heatherwick Studio has just designed for the Welsh campus of Wales Aberystwyth these small units designed to host young creative and artistic companies.

Inaugurated a few days ago and slipped among the trees, these eight bodies of wooden structure buildings are coated with thin metal sheets usually used in the kitchen. Less expensive than a traditional metal cladding, but also more fragile ... To increase the rigidity, these leaves were first crumpled. In a second step, a CFC-free foam was injected on the back of this wrinkled surface, thus increasing the rigidity and the insulating properties.

An original solution, inexpensive, structurally and thermally efficient. A vibrant skin to sunlight, reflecting the sky and surrounding trees.
