Musée du sel par Malcotti-Roussey-Gheza

At Salins les Bains, Malcotti-Roussey architecture agency and Thierry Gheza have transformed the old salt of the city in Salt Museum. A volume of Corten steel that slides into the existing.

On this project, the architects specify:

"Closed since 1962, the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains has been extracted since the Middle Ages, and probably before, brines, was partially demolished in 1940. Despite these demolitions, the site is remarkable. 3 imposing buildings remain surface as well as traces of ancient speakers (tower gate ...). a very long underground gallery dating from the thirteenth century has been preserved. the buildings are visited in the? state shortly after? cessation of activities, but? ambition of achieving a genuine museum is born very early. the competition? s architects organized in spring 2006 materialize this idea. L? recent inscription of the World Heritage? s UNESCO, 27 June 2009, in addition to the Royal Saltworks? arc-et-Senans and whose close? relates the story, just complete the shift from production site to its new heritage facilities. the works come from? be completed in spring correspond to the first installment of? an overall project . The first phase of work involves the partial realization of halls? Exposure, creating the ticket, and room d? As well as the introduction of the museum room stoves. ? Faced with an existing architecture very present but whose reading does not proceed from the outset, our architectural intervention is deliberately chosen: to see rather than to show. It aims to "illuminate" the site: Remote stand to better fit a detail, lead the eye to its materiality, to rediscover the site in a new light, new perspectives. This distance is effective on the ground floor for reasons both architectural, and technical (salt-drenched walls) or legacy (reversibility): the entire ground floor is installed "as a box within a box" in the existing building . Thread of the project? S rusted steel. "
