Kengo Kuma & associates : Hikari

Disposed along a large water space, a major component of urban redevelopment Lyon Confluence, Hikari is a real piece of city combining housing, offices and shops. The island consists of three new buildings in various architectural expressions but builds on their proximity to the service of energy production. The island is the first French, on this scale, positive energy: it will produce more energy than it consumes.

Hikari, light in Japanese, was designed by architect Kengo Kuma. In order to obtain energetic performances, the designers used principles for bioclimatic architecture, but especially the programmatic mix and cycles related to their different uses that architecture could produce these economies. The major asset of the island Hikari based on a reflexion around the pooling of energy produced.

Thus the three buildings communicate with each other to distribute at best the various needs. An energy storage system, a fuel cell is located inside the block, it allows the return to the time of peak demand. Inside, the architecture is full of sensors, measuring between different temperature, CO2 and the presence of people inside the room. A system complkexe but which allows real-time control of the best production of hot and cold.
