Mabire-Reich : Court circuit

A Saint-Herblain, the Mabire & Reich architecture firm imagines a woven basket, disimulant vegetable processing shop bio, as part of a regional policy to promote a short chain between organic production and catering.

The légumerie consists of 2 volumes consist of modular elements (refrigeration panels and office container systems) sheltered by a wide coverage. The first area is home to the process and a band of technical premises to the service yard. The second includes the accompanying premises. The space between these volumes is the 2 educational corridor. It allows, for large windows, to observe the life of the workshop, subject to strict hygiene rules, without entering.

The workshop dresses in a skin woven wood resonate with the site, the Jules Rieffel school in Saint-Herblain. The architects were inspired by the landscape to include this project in a rural context. They have selected the figure of the trellis made of diamonds Douglas and braided willow, like the wicker basket, a traditional symbol of the vegetable harvest. The lattice unifies the different spaces that the building houses and a continuation of the "garden in motion" the landscape architect Gilles Clément implemented by high school students.

The project gives pride to the material and primarily with wood. The spruce, Douglas fir, willow, but also plywood panels used for interior fittings form a coordinated set, lively and warm. The trellis diamond Douglas and wicker vibrate at different scales of perception, now awakening of the person who walks into the shop.

In respect of the concept of inherent short circuit to the project, the architects used local wood (douglas purged sapwood, willow-wicker). Similarly, the heat released to cool the process area are used for heating domestic hot water. The water is treated in a closed cricuit through a pump to UV and re-used by the workshop or for watering vegetables adjacent to the site.
