Yoonseux Architectes : Extension de l'école Jules Ferry

The project consists of the restructuring and extension of a public establishment of 300 pupils, the Jules Ferry school group in Athis-Mons. The new construction is housed in a constrained space, between the historic millstone buildings, a modular “straw hut” type construction, and the nearby residential area.

The extension of the Jules Ferry school takes place on either side of the rectangular volume formed by the old building, a “straw” construction. This arrangement was chosen in order to be able to phase the operation into two work phases and minimize the inconvenience caused to the functioning of the School. On the course side, a new building includes classrooms, extracurricular reception, the infirmary and the courtyard. On the garden side, the auditorium is added, lit by the large windows arranged on either side of the volume. The whole is connected by a concrete pergola that lets light pass through its furrows.
The developed vocabulary is simple and poetic mainly focused around natural light and the same materials used both outside and inside: concrete and wood ...
