Orma Architettura : A Casa Vanella

Located in the Corsican village of Casamaccioli, in the heart of the Niolo region, Casa Vanella is a bed and breakfast built into an exceptional mountain site, offering its residents a breathtaking view of the three famous mountains of the estate. Monte Cinto, Paglia Orba and Cima ai Mori.

The architects of ORMA Architettura realize the sinuous extension of 85 square meters of a small typical house in granite and shale, allowing to accomodate the numerous tourists of this region of pilgrimage. The old part contains the five rooms of the lodging, while the new one hosts the square common rooms - living room, dining room and kitchen -, thus forming three blocks arranged in a row. This destructured volume reproduces the topography of the site on which it encamped, imitating the broken lines created by the mountainous horizon. The thick granite walls as well as the lintels and posts in solid concrete are not unlike reminders the robustness and massivity of the surrounding mountains.

Each room has a large bay window with a different orientation, allowing tenants to enjoy in different ways the unparalleled landscape that unfolds before their eyes. The concrete used on the floor is in harmony with the exposed stone walls, all softened by clean wooden furniture, which does not steal the show at the centerpiece of the house: a picturesque panorama of the Corsican mountains.

A project as atypical as intemporal integrating with brilliance a contemporary architectural achievement in an imposing mineral site.

The project is selected for les ArchiDesignclub Awards 2018 in the category Housing - House
