éOp - arquitectura e design : Centre Social São Pedro

Renovated by the Portuguese architecture agency éOp, the social center São Pedro de Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal) is intended for the reception of the local community.

The social center São Pedro is essential in the life of Vila Nova de Gaia since, besides being located in the old Palace of the Casa das Freiras, a building more than a century old, it houses both meetings of associations than the elderly.

The prime contractor's objective was to preserve the main elements of the 350 square building in its original state, in particular the materials - wrought iron railings, wooden details, visible stones - all revisiting the spatial organization of the place by optimizing the attic and installing multifunctional spaces in the previously unoccupied sub-slopes. The designers combine contemporary luminous pyramidal fixtures and existing roof geometry.

"An accomplice and inspiring space, capable of improving a visionary spirit to serve the common welfare within the concept and history of this institution", eOp - arquiitectura e design

A dialogue between the past and the present, which, in spite of simple and uncluttered procedures, makes it possible to project this centenary place in the future.
