Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos : Parque Toreo

Located in Naucalpan, on the outskirts of Mexico City (Mexico), an impressive commercial complex of nearly 475 000 square meters, combines multiple uses and activities under one roof. Both a busy and an urban park, this ensemble realized by the agency Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos tries to compensate for the absence of meeting places of the megalopolis.

The structure consists of a shopping center positioned in the heart of a construction of four first floors, out of a total of 91 500 square meters; soon surrounded by three towers of 15 levels that will house offices and a hotel of 250 rooms.

The project is based on the creation of a large urban park planted as a public square, a tree-lined circulation area, a meeting place and exhibition, capable of hosting cultural events and conferences. These opportunities for visitors make the vast area much more than just a shopping mall.
The posts in the form of tree trunks, which support the whole of the metallic alveolar cover, make it possible to free the surface of any wall and thus to bring a large amount of light. The visitor thus circulates in a place punctuated by rich exotic vegetation and fountains providing a calm atmosphere in a beehive bubbling with activities and shops, restaurants and other cinemas.

A building that symbolizes the renewal of commercial architecture, and whose mix of use is seen by its designers as a response to the galloping urbanization of South American megacities.
