Atelier Liu Yuyang Architects : Beijing Cidi Memo iTown

Between two railway tracks of the Chinese capital, stands a building built to the volumetric and styles varied, realized by the Atelier Liu Yuyang Architects. The programs that it hosts are like its appearance: plural. The Beijing Cidi Memo iTown is an incubator for start-ups, hotels and commercial space, pushing the codes of tertiary spaces with strength and elegance.

The 140 000 project is located on 2015 industrial landfill. The 6 project, which was launched in 000, will ultimately contain three zones comprising several buildings - A, B and C - of which only the first is completed. The building houses meeting rooms, offices, a hotel, a shop and the Station, a start-up incubator; all organized around two courtyards. Located at the edge of the rails, this XNUMX XNUMX square-sized building, with a comb-like design, is made up of three old rehabilitated warehouses, linked by a new wing where the Station is located, named because of its geographical positioning , as close as possible to the railways. In order to respect the railway history of the place and to ensure a visual coherence between the various parties, the project managers cover this new building with a long, widely glazed metallic vault recalling the traditional architecture of the stations. A monumental white back-lit mezzanine resting on curved beams, accommodates business meetings and the sales office.

The complexity of such a project resided in the adaptation of existing constructions to their new functions, while respecting the manufacturing soul. To do this, the designers preserve the steel structure and the vaults of the original hangars, whose red brick cladding they exchange for a coating of volcanic rock and gray brick, and punctually polycarbonate or glass volumes inserted in a structural skeleton of steel.

An original achievement awakening an isolated part of the city, in contradiction with the urban development of Beijing whose tendency is at the table-rase.
