Wilmotte & Associés : Station F

Rehabilitated by the French architecture firm Wilmotte & Associés, the Halle Freyssinet, a former Parisian railway depot (13th arrondissement) dating from the 1920s, becomes Station F, the largest campus in the world dedicated to the development of startups. The 34 square meter space is intended to accommodate more than 000 emerging businesses.

For this ambitious program, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, chief architect of the project, and Frédéric Didier of the 2BDM agency, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments, wished to keep the original structure in prestressed reinforced concrete, of great lightness. The 310 meters long incubator is made up of three parallel naves, the vaults of which can be less than 5 millimeters thick at the ridge. Always in order to safeguard the architectural finesse of the old hall, the designers have added suspended awnings to the side facades, which do not affect the view or the movement of people.

The three spaces - of which the two smaller ones are organized on either side of the main area - are independent and each has its own functions. The first, Share, Is a place of sharing and meeting, and a forum including: a Fab Lab - prototyping workshop with 3D printers in open access -, an auditorium of more than 350 places, and multiple meeting rooms to welcome Investors and partners of new entrepreneurs.

When you go to the heart of the campus, you find yourself in your nerve center: Create, an area grouping the many startups. If the central nave is clear, allowing everyone to circulate without clutter, the side sections, whose layout is free, host as for them 24 "villages" housing the various companies.

Finally, young workers will be able to relax in the last part of Station F: Shill. The volume will house an open restaurant 24 / 24h as well as a terrace facing south. An extension of 100 public housing is also planned in 2018 and will be able to host 600 entrepreneurs at affordable prices.

Like the startups that it welcomes, Station F is innovative and sees the big picture as it prepares to put a lot of talents on the road to success.

Very nice achievement, and beautiful challenge for a concrete hall with a finesse that has little equivalent!
