Reichen et Robert & Associés et D3 Architectes : La Grande Halle Gerland

Orchestrated by the architects of Reichen and Robert & Associates and D3 Architects, this rehabilitation project has all of a surgical act. Carried out with meticulousness and respect for the existing, it brings new life to a major heritage building in Lyon: the former Grande Halle Gerland.

This is a real renewal for the 7e district of Lyon that operated the agencies Reichen and Robert & Associates and D3 Architects by rehabilitating the Great Hall Gerland. With an ambitious program - including the transformation of the existing business restaurant, as well as the construction of buildings to the north and south to house the new offices EDF - bold response.

Also, the architects chose to respect first and foremost the heritage that constituted the hall, retaining its original volume, simply lightening the canopies of the west facade and the interior floors. Removals to reveal the golden stone in the restaurant, sublimated by the replacement of the wood frame to the identical, the creation of an interior garden and the installation of a double glazed skin in front of the west facade. An addition that "Contributes to the enhancement of existing buildings, architectural beautification and visual transparency"explain the designers.

On either side of the Grande Halle, more than 15 000 square meters of offices were built, connected to it by footbridges. In addition, these concrete rooms are decorated with delicate gold-plated anodized aluminum slats, a nod to the color of the stone. A choice also motivated by the natural ventilation allowed by such a device, since the architects aim for certification "NF - Buildings Tertiary - HQE® Approach" (Excellent level).
