Antonio Virga Architecte : Centre d'hébergement et d'accueil international (CHAI)

In Cahors (46), the architect Antonio Virga offers a hostel like no other. Located close to the Valentré bridge, it offers much more than the comfort needed by travelers. Explanations.

"The hostel reinvented. " It is by these few words that could be summed up the concept of the Chai (International Hosting and Reception Center), a project signed by the architect Antonio Virga and erected in the heart of the city of Cahors in 2016. Indeed, with this realization, the designer jostles all a priori architectural related to this type of programs.

Reminiscent of a white ribbon wrapped around itself, delicately placed on a glass base - which houses the reception area, particularly visible from the street - this four-storey building offers unexpected comfort for customary travelers such establishments. An unusual standing due to the presence of a large vegetated patio at first, inherent in the circular plan of the project. "Rooms are inward facing, quiet", complete on this subject the architect who chose to develop these spaces in a simple way: the 94 beds of 38 rooms of night are thus summarized with mattresses placed on wooden platforms made to measure, all concealed in bare concrete boxes. A purified but flawless bias, as it is timeless.

Finally, that lovers of beautiful landscapes are reassured: it is not because it is impossible to see the city - known for its medieval wealth - from his bed, that the Chai does not take advantage of its ideal location, well on the contrary ! Thus, the roof terrace is perfectly arranged and conducive to the contemplation of the famous Valentré bridge, classified in the UNESCO world heritage and located directly opposite. A feast for the eyes.
