Ioda architectes : EHPAD

With this EHPAD project located in Calais (62), Anthony Bidal and Delphine Defachelles, from the ioda architects agency, demonstrate more than anything the capacity of its designers to anticipate the complex needs of future users. The result is a thoughtful construction, entirely designed to offer residents maximum independence.

In Calais, this establishment for the accommodation of disabled and disabled elderly people was not only designed by the ioda architects agency for "Integrate perfectly with the site" or offer "an ideal operation", as Anthony Bidal and Delphine Defachelles say, but especially for "To try to offer people with mental disabilities an appropriation of spaces and thus allow them to live in perfect harmony and to open themselves to the outside world".

An ambitious goal, the realization of which involves as much the drawing of volumes, the distribution of places or the attention to detail. With this in mind, the building adopts a circular plan, with a central planted patio, functioning as an autonomous micro-village. If the administration and the restaurant are installed in the south, towards the entrance, the rooms take place in the north; remoteness with the reception and the offices of the staff favoring the intimacy of the residents. As for the individual apartments of the EHPAD, they are logically located in the east: "Having a greater need of calm and tranquility they are in direct relationship with the landscaping and very green of the Canal Neuve River", complete the designers.

To achieve the best balance between seclusion and social life, the construction, particularly warm and soothing thanks to its wooden cladding, is also open to the outside. The forecourt located just in front of the glazed entrance of the place plays a key role: a space where patients can sit, interact with passersby and therefore "Participate in public life". Finally, to avoid the feeling of isolation, the restaurant installed in R + 1 has a large terrace open during the beautiful days: "Residents therefore have an elevated view of the public domain, allowing them to maintain physical contact with the active world"conclude Anthony Bidal and Delphine Defachelles, authors of an EHPAD as consistent as it is concerned about its future users.
