ANTONINI DARMON architectes et RMDM architectes : Extension du CTLES

Building a building with strong identity, in the shadow of another signed by a renowned architect: this was the mission entrusted to the agencies ANTONINI DARMON and RMDM for the extension of the Technical Center for the Book of Higher Education ( CTLES). A total success!

A pioneer of British dandyism, George Brummell reportedly said: "The real elegance is not to be noticed". A maxim too often ignored, and that could perfectly apply to the new extension CTLES delivered by the agencies ANTONINI DARMON and RMDM in Bussy-Saint-Georges (77) in 2016.

Built in the extension of a building designed by the architect Dominique Perrault, this new volume intended to house more works of heritage and scientific interest was to "Print a strong identity instead", all in "Preserving the integrity of the existing"explain the designers. A real challenge, resolved by the agencies with two major ideas.
The first is volumetric, implying that the new construction is simply connected to the project of Dominique Perrault by a glass walkway, to avoid any alteration of the original achievement. The second corresponds to the choice of the covering of this parallelepipedic volume, the plates of ribbed stainless steel: "Faceted by folds, they decompose the landscape in a kinetic effect until sometimes the building disappears", detail the architects. In the end, the extension of the CTLES is so discreet that it becomes remarkable. And that was precisely the goal with this realization could not be more elegant. In short, a master stroke.
