Gigon Guyer Architekten et Synthèse Architecture : Bâtiment Francis Bouygues

École CentraleSupélec Paris is located southwest of the capital, on the Saclay plateau (91). The Swiss Helmet Gigon Guyer Architekten delivers for the institution a bright building, put at the service of its users: students and researchers, but not only ...

The Francis Bouygues building is part of the titanic project of the 76 000 ground floor central campus of XNUMX XNUMX, gathering students and researchers, for which OMA and Gigon Guyer Architekten have designed two parallelepiped buildings, each with their own identity, thanks to the expertise of the two studios.

The "Gustave Eiffel" part, nicknamed Lab City, produced by the Dutch agency, takes the form of a black block composed of five levels organized around a large square bathed in light thanks to a skylight covered with inflatable ETFE tarpaulins.
Faced with this ensemble, the building "Francis Bouygues", designed by the Swiss Anette Gigon and Mike Guyer Architekten, houses research wings as well as a public hall and a hotel. It is seen by its designers as an "artificial topography" whose three levels are linked by a patio planted with multiple windows, hearts of the project. Full and empty are linked here, hidden behind a facade covered with Moeding glazed stoneware shingles of three colors (black, gray and green), marked strong horizontal and vertical composition lines, especially created by the colonnade of its portico. More segmented than its neighbor, the construction of 27 000 square meters puts on a more intimate atmosphere, with multiple plots, with free appropriation. A bias that responds to the variety of needs and desires of each student. A kind of city in the city that promises an establishment as stimulating for students as for the inhabitants of Gif-sur-Yvette.

In addition to breaking the codes of morose scientific institutions, the CentraleSupélec Campus contributes significantly to the creation of a new campus model, that of a university town.
