Brooks + Scarpa : Angle Lake Station

While our metro stations are not always the most attractive and often a mere transit point, the new Angle Lake station in Seattle, USA, was designed the opposite of this model by Brooks + Scarpa. Behind a contemporary envelope in clear-sky it houses a multitude of programs ranging from the station to the event reception through the trade. A new center of life.

This huge seven-storey 37 393 project includes, in addition to its railway areas, venues for community events, shopping, parking for up to 150 cars, and the airline's headquarters. Alaska Airlines.

Its cast-in-place concrete structure is clad in addition to 7 500 blue adonised aluminum facade panels. Acting as a second skin, these azure blades seem to undulate under Seattle's gray sky. Like a still image of a choreography inspired by "Dance Geometry", improvisational piece by William Forsythe in which acrobats mingle their body to match their movements to lines in space. In this way, each of the facade elements was custom-designed to apply the feeling of oscillation to the building.

On the third level, a public square - directly connected to the entrance to the tramway, the car park and the outer streets - serves as a transit area with seating, works by local visual artists and water retention ponds. pluvialess. This platform also hosts various events, such as festivals, exhibitions or even regional farmers' markets.

A versatile program that aims to become one of the centers of life of the Ville Pluvieuse.
