NADAAA et Cooper Union : Zhulang Huagai: A Figure for the Nantou Urban Village

As part of the Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture of Shenzhen (China), the American agency NADAAA has partnered with the students of the famous School of Architecture and Art Cooper Union to realize in the village of Nantou a structure whose purpose is to bring people together.

Designed as a shaded public square, the installation was originally thought of as a scaffolding that, lacking financial means, the builders have declined in linear composition. For example, did NADAAA and the Cooper Union students imagine a covered corridor of 110 square meters on the ground, consisting of a series of triangular steel porticoes? seem to be in torsion, and that are covered with an opalescent veil above the heads of passers-by.

Established on a little busy square, the set is intended to host markets, cultural and social events, or just to shelter passersby and allow them to meet.

The Shenzhen Biennale is also one of its many structures the Dom-Ino Pavilion inspired by the eponymous constructive system invented by Le Corbusier in 1915, or the flag (W) ego, imagined by the Dutch agency MVRDV. An event all the more essential that it allows a region like Shenzhen and the village of Nantou to be put forward.

A sober realization but whose simplicity does not detract from the unifying aspect.
