Raphaël Azalbert Architecte : Maison Ouane

Located on the banks of the Rhone in Avignon, this house designed by the architect Raphael Azalbert inspires calm and relaxation. Difficult today to imagine how his design was able to meet the puzzle! A limpid result that his designer could not have achieved without mobilizing treasures of ingenuity ...

Delivered in 2017 in Avignon by the architect Raphaël Azalbert, this family house is the result of a set of responses to the constraints posed by the site on which it is located. And constraints, there were ... First: the land is a thin strip with an area of 180 square meters where it was necessary to reserve a right of way three meters wide to allow access to the neighboring residence , so that it remained "To build a rectangle of 16 x 4,5 meters, or 72 square meters", details the designer. Deuxio: the prospect implied a setback of four meters to the south of the dividing line and a maximum construction height of 8 meters high, as well as a withdrawal of the second floor "To limit daytime intake". Third: the plot, located on one of the banks of the Rhône, is liable to flooding.

Luckily for his customer of Nordic origins, Raphael Azalbert is a persevering architect and this puzzle does not impress him, so he persists and signs "To achieve uncompromising architecture". As a direct consequence of all these obligations, the wooden frame house adopts the volumetry of a paving stone raised on three levels. Unable to opt for a classic distribution - living rooms downstairs and more intimate spaces upstairs - the designer chooses to install the living room and its open kitchen at the top of the building, which open onto a beautiful terrace with a view of the landscape. - allowing the passage to respond to the constraint of withdrawal of R + 2. Below are the two bedrooms, separated by a module integrating the bathroom. Finally - and this is the charm of this project - the ground floor houses the garage, but above all a bar housed in a volume that looks like a tavern. Covered with openwork wooden battens, it echoes the privileged claustra to dress the south facade and the R + 2, which protects the owners just as much as it allows the project to stand out. Inside, the custom-designed wooden fittings round off this ultra-millimeter creation, whose charm and cachet ultimately leave nothing to show the difficulty of execution. Good game.
