Atelier Novembre : Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental

The territory of the Paris-Saclay campus (91) continues to grow! It is now equipped with a conservatory dedicated to the teaching of music, drama and dance. Spotlight on this new addition to what promises to be one of the major student hubs of the Île de France.

Located on the edge of the Yvette bed and Launay Botanical Park, the building of 1 660 square meters composes with an exceptional natural site. The whole is divided into four immaculate volumes, corresponding to the diversity of teaching proposed by the establishment, connected to each other by glazed common areas. Games of transparency that allow views on the outside but also decompartmentalizes the whole, promoting the circulation and apprehension of the place.

The project is divided in two by a distribution axis around which the buildings are distributed on both sides, two by two. East of this street, the L-shaped entrance building, which faces the entrance to the university campus, has a large glass façade. It opens onto a clean concrete hall built in double height and can eventually host exhibitions and information media. The two upper levels host classrooms dedicated to individual music lessons. On the opposite side of the parcel stands the block devoted to the dramatic and choreographic arts.

In the center of this ensemble, the auditorium, essential point of the design, is open on the street and can accommodate up to 300 spectators in an ergonomic space. Adjacent, the common rehearsal rooms and the audition space are facing the green spaces and the inner garden, inserted in the U that creates the insertion of each party and offering students the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors between two music lessons.

A contemporary project that does not denature the environment in which it is located.

The project is selected for the ADC Awards 2019 in the category Culture / Space - Cultural Center
