Guillaume Ramillien Architecture : Eco-cité La Garenne

Installed in a neglected area of Fourchambault (58), the Eco-city La Garenne renounces the bars of social housing in favor of a pavilion architecture. A way for Guillaume Ramilien's teams to make this forgotten area of the city more attractive and reconnect it with the rest of the town.

Former working city on the outskirts of Nevers, Fourchambault is characterized by a strong presence of social housing. A finding that is confirmed in the district of "back station", that of La Garenne, cut from the rest of the town by a railway and whose tired towers come out of the concrete.

To restore dignity to this isolated neighborhood, Guillaume Ramillien imagines a set of 34 social rental housing including several typologies: 6 individual apartments, individual 8 grouped and 20 small intermediaries. The project also includes a landscaping of two hectares, made possible by the destruction of about forty obsolete housing. In addition, a pedestrian bridge now allows you to reach the city center, ensuring a stronger link with the rest of the city and promoting exchanges between different urban spaces.

The architectural approach is inspired by the classic four-sided house with a double-sided roof that is modernized here in a more contemporary and abstract way. The volumes are superimposed, intermingled and distinguished by the alternation of white-surfaced cellular concrete monomer blocks on the ground floor and penthouses - made from traditional framing and wood-framed walls - covered with golden corrugated metal. The gardens, on the other hand, repeat the classic codes of joint ownership, such as fences in ganivelles or vegetable hedges.

A revisit of the pavilion area that energizes the district of La Garenne without disorienting its inhabitants.

The project is selected for the ADC Awards 2019 in the Architecture & Landscape / Housing category
