Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés : Lycée La Plaine

Since the start of the 2017 school year, the students of the Lycée La Plaine of the ZAC de Montjoie in Saint-Denis (93) have been spending their days in an establishment that alone would make you want to cram. It must be said that this equipment designed by the Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés agency combines aesthetic efficiency and energy performance. Back to a textbook case.

Everything suggests that on September 4, 2017, the young people of the Lycée La Plaine in Saint-Denis looked less gloomy than their comrades in the rest of France. Because despite the return to school, they had the chance to inaugurate a brand new establishment, created by the Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés agency following the competition launched by the Ile-de-France Regional Council. A project that the region wanted zero energy and intended to support the urban development of the ZAC district of Montjoie, in full expansion.

Responding to the demand to design a high school open to its environment, sustainable and housing a boarding school, a school restaurant as well as official accommodation for teaching staff in addition to traditional classrooms, the Parisian agency has imagined a building of 15 500 square meters in mixed structure (wood and concrete) including the plan "Takes up the spiral, which symbolizes movement, progress through knowledge, social ascent through culture and study", tell its designers. If those who have a knack for maths will rather see an 8 - or better, the sign of infinity - it is clear that the building offers a volume conducive to exchanges with the neighborhood, at the same time facilitating the movement of future graduates between different rooms.

Organic by its plan, this project is also by its facades and coatings. Outside, a wavy gray wood cladding acts as a sunshade, while on the inside, the architects drew a partially curved wooden ceiling, which turns up under a stairway to become a guard. -body, according to the idea of a "Interlacing of moving ribbons". A reference to naturalness that is not only an aesthetic artifice, since the high school La Plaine is not stingy in good vibes from an ecological point of view: thermal envelope more efficient than regulatory standards, low electricity consumption, installation of nearly 1 square meters of photovoltaic panels and even rainwater recovery for sanitary facilities ... What to get a 000/20?
