Lobjoy-Bouvier-Boisseau architecture : Deux fondations, Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson et Fondation François Sommer

Nestled in the heart of Paris in the third arrondissement, the building designed by the agency Lobjoy-Bouvier-Boisseau architecture is a hymn to beauty. This cultural retreat, which is home to both the Fondation Henri-Cartier Bresson and the Fondation François Sommer, has a refined contemporary architecture and aims to renew the classical exhibition space.

The new building of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation is at the top of the list as one of the most important cultural sites that contribute to the cultural influence of the French capital. The rehabilitation of this site consists of the transformation of an old car garage into a cultural space welcoming both the exhibition spaces of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation and the administrative offices of the François Sommer Foundation.

The minimalist volumetry of the building fascinates as much by its chromatic appearance as by the materials used outside. The facade spread over four floors dedicated to each foundation deploys a refined decor in solid anodized aluminum. This makes it possible to subtly wrap the building and give it a particular aesthetic dimension.

Inside, the whole is arranged at the bottom of parcel around the courtyard imagined according to the plan of the cloister. The ground floor with huge glass walls is bathed in natural light and facing the city. In these spaces are the new exhibition halls of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation. This change of location has allowed the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation to double its size and to establish itself at the center of Parisian cultural life, not far from the European House of Photography, the Pompidou Center, the Picasso Museum and many galleries. The retrospective dedicated to Martine Franck, wife of Henri Cartier-Bresson, opens the programming of this new cultural space.

The project is selected for the ADC Awards 2019 in the category Culture / Museum - exhibition space.
