MVRDV : The Imprint

Conceived by Dutch firm MVRDV, The Imprint is an entertainment complex divided into two buildings whose envelopes are located on the border between disconcerting simplicity and exacerbated fantasy. An amazing architectural paradox located in Seoul (Korea), close to Incheon Airport.

As part of the development of Paradise City, a six-building hotel complex, the MVRDV project includes a nightclub and a covered theme park. Programs well hidden since one of the peculiarities of the constructions lies in the absence of window. But not only...

In order to connect their realization of a total area of 9 800 square meters to the rest of the facilities in the area, the architects reproduce the motifs of the facades of adjacent buildings by "printing" them in relief, thus inspiring them with the name of the project. An important point for the sponsors because, "Paradise City is not a collection of individual objects, like in Las Vegas, but a real city. " says Winy Maas, founder of MVRDV. The project's façades thus consist of 2 869 unique panels of reinforced concrete and fiberglass, whose white monochrome treatment is boosted by the lines of the neighborhood. Only touch of color: a flat gold flag signals the entrance to the nightclub to tourists fresh out of the airport.

But the greatest peculiarity of these buildings is undoubtedly the raised entrances dotted on both sets. In the manner of a levitating curtain, this architectural gesture reveals a kaleidoscopic interior design made of mirrored ceilings and glass floors, fanning the curiosity of passers-by.

A singular project that plunges us right into the whimsical world of the capital of Korea!
