Studio Cadena : Masa

Masa, the new concept imagined by the New York studio Cadena, energizes a residential neighborhood in northern Bogota (Colombia). With its sober and graphic envelope, the set hosts a reception area, a bakery and a restaurant, offering the inhabitants of the region a friendly meeting place.

The building of 700 square meters, divided into three cubic concrete volumes of different scales, is based on a terracotta base, echoing the typical materials of housing Bogota. Each of the programs, although located in separate spaces, are connected to each other, except for one shop.

With geometry as a watchword, the visual identity of the structure is based on triangular cutouts on the facades ensuring a link with the outside and also bathing the different rooms with a diffused and pleasant light. These windows also form the letter M, referring to the name of the restaurant: Masa.

If the exterior is organized around lines and angles, the interior, meanwhile, is softer and more conducive to relaxation. Rather than continue to interpret the shape of the triangle, the designers choose to decline the circle: on floor-cast concrete floors with terrazzo elements or furniture designed by the Cadena studio: the silhouette of the bar, wall sconces, cylindrical concrete planters or light suspensions. The warmth of the place is enhanced by the large presence of wood in the furnishings.

A treatment at once clean and contemporary for a welcoming place where it is good to meet.
