Breathe Architecture : Paramount House Hotel

Located in the former headquarters of Paramout Pictures Studios in Sydney, Australia, the Paramount House Hotel has been treated exceptionally by the Breathe Design architects who equip the 1930 building with a herringbone screen. in copper standing in the middle of Art Deco works, in honor of the golden age of cinema.

The set takes place in the trendy Surry Hills neighborhood, in two buildings - the old studios and an old 80 warehouse - which, under the guidance of the Melbourne-based studio, are now one of a kind. an extension of 2 floors connecting the two entities. Inspired by the manufacturing character of its original site, the builders design the 29 suites by prioritizing a design method that tends to reuse used materials. From the existing, they retain the raw textures of bricks and ribbed wood, which they emphasize metal elements, recycled wood and colored textiles. The structure is overhung with a copper structure, placed like a crown and thus finalizing the notion of unity between the two buildings.

The ground floor hosts the Golden Age cinema and bar, as well as the Paramount Coffee Project café, a restaurant and the hotel's boutique. Visitors enter the hotel through the former movie safe which is now a reception area. Access to the night spaces is then via a bright atrium. Each room reveals different aspects of the original architecture, from old stairs to joists to parapets. By highlighting its existing material, the construction retains its identity and the architects are part of a contemporary approach with elegant furniture, brass or terrazzo. Many penates also have north-facing terraces accessed through black aluminum frame glazing panels. Largely treed, these provide shade and ventilation residents with an interaction with the urban landscape.

Capturing the craze and spirit of the movie's golden age, the Paramount House Hotel combines raw aesthetics with contemporaneity, in the spirit of local life.
