Formzero : Planter Box House

The Formzero agency, based in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), imagines a home in which nature seems to regain its rights! Composed of concrete blocks agglomerated on three levels, the house allows its residents to cultivate their passion and their kitchen garden, giving the whole an aspect located between brutalist work and outdoor garden.

Erected using a split bamboo formwork provided by the indigenous population - the Temuan - the 340 square meter building with marked volumetry celebrates the vernacular architecture of the peninsula. Named Planter Box House, the building honors a sustainable and self-sufficient way of life: between garden, farm and habitat, this realization allows a cascade of plants to translate the tropical architecture in its environment in a contemporary and contrasted way. privileging light exposure and natural ventilation for the entire building. Each block houses a planter and the set contains a wide variety of plants - close to 40 species -, as well as an interconnected irrigation system that the couple can modify as they please, and each tank is thought for retention. rainwater. From the composition of the soil to the water level, the owners can keep an eye on their plantations.

The entrance and the living area are separated from the back of the building by a central staircase that leads to the other two levels of the residence. With only glass partitions, the double height kitchen and living room give access to the green wall of the back of the building via a bay window at full height, bathing the living spaces of natural light and making them benefit optimal ventilation. By mounting the first set of steps, users enter the first floor with a bedroom and an office, while the second floor hosts a bedroom with a heliocidal staircase giving access to the roof.

The Planter Box House is packed with tricks to embody the healthy and generous lifestyle of its residents, while brilliantly adding contemporary design in a lush environment.
