Atelier Riri : Kyiakabin

Designed by the Atelier Riri, the Kyiakabin offer a place to stay on the west coast of Lombok (Indonesia) consisting of a series of cabins built according to the culture of local people, the Sasak. The opportunity for visitors to enjoy a warm face with this peaceful hamlet and its generous customs.

Located on the west coast of Lombok Island, the Kiyakabin residence - with an area of 400 square meters - enjoys an ideal location, offering its residents a direct view of the Bali Sea. A series of four cabins, three of which are dedicated to the accommodation of the guests, are randomly placed around a swimming pool shared by the users - the last cabin being reserved for the communal restaurant, kitchen and reserve.

The architecture combines a modern lifestyle, shaped by the use of simple geometric shapes, with local construction methods, evoking the character of Sasak constructions, an Indonesian ethnic group. The wooden frame cabins use the resources of the site: the golden teak undergoes a protective treatment outdoors to protect it from tropical conditions that can quickly become extreme, giving it a charred finish; in contrast, white teak giving the interiors a more streamlined contemporary look.

All the lodges are oriented differently, arranged around the pool whose irregular contours define private outdoor spaces for each cabin. They all benefit from a unique visibility and a different layout, ranging from 12 to 16 square meters for accommodations and 48 square meters for the dining room. It is around this common space that meetings are formed, facilitated by the layout and the small size of the summer residence.

These subtleties and differences only reinforce the implementation of the ensemble in its original site. The construction stands out from the local dwellings by a simplified geometry, but adapts to the regional uses by taking advantage of the natural and cultural resources of the region.

The Atelier Riri studio offers both a community living space and privileged access to the abundant nature of Lombok, while locally marking its difference.
