Martín Dulanto : Topo House

Discrete in appearance, the Topo House is finally much larger than it seems! Designed by the architect Martín Dulanto in the Lima hills (Peru), the main objective of the project is to minimize damage to the environment when building a home. A good example of responsible realization.

On a leveled plot of nearly two hectares, Martín Dulanto imagines a residence of 372 square meters that seems to be simply composed of a block covered with wooden sticks placed on the ground. The Topo House is actually equipped with two levels, one of which, with the raw concrete structure is partially buried, thus reducing the impact of the construction on its environment while maintaining the necessary comfort for its inhabitants.

The visible part of the iceberg, appearing as a large wooden box covered with cantilevered over the concrete structure, conceals the spaces of night which benefit, thanks to their elevation, of impregnable views on the lagoon and the adjacent watercourse. The lower level hosts the living room and kitchen and an extra bedroom - with a private bathroom - and a laundry room. The two floors are interconnected by two staircases, located at the back and to the right of the house, which are widening in the extension of the terrace.

Although the concrete panels that delineate the base of the house sink halfway under the rocks of the hills of Lima, the ground garden is bathed in light and its border with the outside is blurred thanks to the presence of a long lateral fault that can open on almost the entire property. The treatment given to this space is organic, almost rustic because its overall position is more physically closer to nature and the earth. Thus, the natural stone of the terraces also appears inside, both in floor covering and on the walls.

Far from brutalizing its site, the Topo House fits with delicacy in its environment, adapting its envelope to the topography of the periphery of the Peruvian capital.
