Jean Paul Viguier et Associés : Jo&Joe

Located in Gentilly (94), the Jo & Joe hotel by Jean Paul Viguier and Associates accumulates the first times, inaugurating the timber frame construction at the Accor group and combining various types of accommodation in a unique concept. Presented as the combination of "Best of private rent, hotel and youth hostel", the new residence of Ile de France seems rich in promises. What is it really ?

Succeeding Jo & Joe Hossegor (40), the youngest of Accor takes place avenue Paul-Vaillant-Couturier in Gentilly and wants to be an alternative to the American giant Airbnb, putting the hotel sector to bad for a few years already. Targeting the trendy international youth, the project is entrusted to the French agency Jean Paul Viguier and Associates and puts the dishes in the big to seduce these millennials so coveted.

First advantage: an ecological construction, combining wood frame and green roofs and vegetable. The 6 000 9 square meters building, designed on a U-shaped plan, benefits from dry cross-laminated building construction, a biobased and recyclable material, helping to reduce carbon emissions and providing insulation. thermal performance better than concrete. The set is then adorned with an iridescent aluminum sheet transforming the light throughout the day: golden day, the facades are bluish tints once in the evening. A play of light accentuated by the permanent life of the ground floor largely glazed as well as the installation of pressed sheets backlit at the last level.

The set encloses an indoor garden open to all whose abundance of fruit trees marks the seasonality while offering a small greenery to guests and passers-by, quite rare in the Paris region to be underlined. This external relationship continues on the largely vegetated roofs as well as on terraces planted on the seventh floor.

And to attract the younger generation of travelers, Jo & Joe is focusing on a hybrid concept that offers a variety of options: a classic dormitory, a privatized shared room and cabins. Moving away from the classic vacation home, the project tends to get closer to youth hostels whose friendliness and affordable rates continue to appeal to less than 30 years. With its 612 beds for 85 rooms, theopen house multiplies the common areas - bar, restaurant and outdoor spaces - allowing travelers from all walks of life to exchange informally and thus change their prospects.

The interior design, entrusted to the British agency Penson - which includes Google or YouTube seats - is a continuation of the pilot version of the Landes. Alternating between wood, concrete and steel, the different spaces are located halfway between the former factory, Berlin squat and urban art gallery.

A project that gives a second wind to the world of hospitality.
