Kennedy Nolan : Caroline House

The Australian architectural firm Kennedy Nolan signs the rehabilitation of a family home by offering an extension thought around the heart of this project as a promise of long summer evenings sunny.

The architect duo Kennedy Nolan wakes up an old Edwardian house in Melbourne (Australia) with panache to make it a haven of peace with modern finery. Exit the wise facade covered with wood cladding which Patrick Kennedy and Rachel Nolan redraw here contours by mixing white briquettes in relief and woodwork to the transparency of the glass. But the sleight of hand of these creators who hold the Victorian Architecture Awards 2019 hides on the other side of this house, and takes the form of an extension hosting a swimming pool.

Inspired by the aesthetics of the Roman baths, the immaculate covering of the curves of the building is pierced with portholes and Palladian windows overlooking a corridor and lounge bathed in light. The rippling reflections of the water are reflected in this living room bordered by a pool, giving the impression of having just been placed on the waves.

Inside, the softness of the different tones of cream and white are inviting on the walls as well as on the pieces of furniture while on the ground, tiles of terrazzo inspiration give character to a set decorated with care and combining pieces of design and local artefacts. Leading to the rooms, the olive green steel staircase is the only colored concession of the house and echoes the green environment of this house located on the edge of the Yarra River.

Rehabilitation carried out brilliantly!
