Carl Fredrik Svenstedt Architecte : Chai Delas Frères

The new cellar of Maison Delas Frères, designed by Carl Fredrik Svenstedt, is a refined monolith with a remarkable facade, installed in the heart of the town of Tain l'Hermitage (26). A look back at an ensemble that puts architecture and wine in the spotlight.

The Delas Frères house takes place in the center of the village of Tain l'Hermitage, a town characterized by its hillsides and its undulating terraces planted with vines. Already established in the region for years, the house is now enriched with a set intended for the production and the reception of the public imagined by the agency Carl Fredrik Svenstedt Architect. Their intervention is articulated in two stages: the rehabilitation of an existing private mansion in a place of reception and the creation of a wine cellar.

Already existing but fallen into disuse, the mansion retains its bourgeois facade from the end of the XIXst century but is seen here transformed into a place of reception and a guest house with 11 rooms intended for stays of wine lovers. On the ground floor, reception rooms and a kitchen await guests when in the basement, a vaulted cellar houses the greatest wines of the house. This structure overlooks a walled garden whose green spaces were designed by Christophe Ponceau and Mélanie Drevet.

The new winery, meanwhile, stands in front of a colonnade of stones from the sales and tasting cellar - installed behind a wall facing the street - and is hidden behind an imposing façade of limestone culminating at 7,6 meters and spanning 80 meters long. True marker of identity of the place, this stone veil reinterprets the relief of the region thanks to its poetic curves. This long facade conceals the vat room and the barrel cellar as well as work and production premises with access to a backyard, intended to receive agricultural vehicles. If this set is intended for the wine design process, it nevertheless helps to promote the region. Indeed, it offers an oenological route to visitors who enter the enclosure via a double ramp serving the two floors of the structure and allowing, thanks to two bay windows, to see the vat room and the barrel cellar. And to extend the stay, a path directly connects the winery to the mansion, concluding the route.

A delight for all lovers of good wine.
