VIB Architecture : Institut de l'Audition

In the second arrondissement of Paris, an unidentified architectural object seems to have been inserted between two buildings typical of the capital. Behind a faceted mirror facade hides the new Hearing Institute, a building dedicated to research in hearing neuroscience signed VIB architecture.

The project rehabilitates an old industrial hotel dating from 1909 and operated since the 1950s by the École du barreau. The entire 4 square meters is visible from the street thanks to an exceptional facade with organic allures reflecting typically Parisian buildings and whose cellular allure refers to the scientific program that it conceals.

The visitor enters the building via a central atrium with a large canopy establishing an airlock between the interior and the exterior. A patio with mirrored walls also plays this role further, inviting calm and contemplation. The atrium connects the three volumes of the Hearing Institute through revisited circulations, made more fluid.

As this is a rehabilitation project, the architects wanted to keep the majority of the floors but purifying the interior spaces. The latter, a bit futuristic, host an auditorium with a marked aesthetic due in particular to the presence of a psychedelic mural, offices and state-of-the-art laboratories intended for research.

A project that fits beautifully into the Parisian landscape.
