Studio Adrien Gardère x Bien Urbain – atelier d’architecture : Les Galeries de la Mode du Musée des Arts Décoratifs

In close collaboration with the Studio Adrien Gardère, the architects of Bien Urbain - architecture workshop, Guillaume Cantardjian, Nicolas Cèbe and Jérôme Stablon, rethink with a contemporary look the Fashion Galleries of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris (1st arrondissement) . A subtle intervention that highlights the architectural writing of the historic building while inviting the creativity of the scenographers.

At the Museum of Decorative Arts, the galleries dedicated to presenting temporary fashion exhibitions are displayed in the Rohan wing of the Louvre bordered by both the Tuileries Garden and the Rue de Rivoli. At the request of the institution, and thanks to the patronage of Stephen and Christine Schwarzman, the Fashion Galleries have been entirely redesigned by the teams of Studio Adrien Gardère, who partnered for this project with the architects Bien Urbain - workshop of architecture, lighting designer Alexis Coussement ACL and the BETOM design office.

The Rohan wing had undergone a renovation in the 1990s, making the architectural structure of the building difficult to see. The architects therefore articulated the renovation of the galleries around the enhancement of the heritage in order to once again reveal the characteristics of this iconic building. The temporary exhibition spaces have in fact been completely freed of superfluous elements. The walls, floors and ceilings are now left rough, and simply stabilized by a mineral stain. A new concrete staircase, sculptural and discreet, connects the two floors.

The architects also placed autonomous and modular display cases between each split. These flexible objects make it easy to modify the organization of exhibition halls, and guarantee scenographers greater freedom of creation when designing a display. Having become veritable “exhibiting machines”, the Fashion Galleries of the Museum of Decorative Arts can finally accommodate various scenographies.

The reopening of these spaces was also marked by the minimalist and efficient scenography of the Studio Adien Gardère created for the exhibition “Harper's Bazaar, the first fashion magazine”. This event, which pays homage to the famous American fashion magazine, thus shows sixty haute couture and ready-to-wear creations, and several contributions by great artists, illustrators and photographers to the magazine, in a daring staging. .
