Yoonseux Architectes : Groupe scolaire Élisabeth Badinter

The architectural firm Yoonseux Architectes, founded by the Franco-Korean duo Kyunglan Yoon and Philippe Seux, has just delivered the Élisabeth Badinter School Group, an intervention that attracts attention and contributes to the revival of industrial wasteland in Asnières-sur -Seine (92).

Located in the ZAC Asnières - Bords de Seine on former industrial sites, in the Grésillons sector, the Élisabeth Badinter School Group is a building forming a raised base signed by B. Ropa (2013). At the request of the City of Asnières-sur-Seine, the architects raised the building to highlight the built environment, the template of the roof lines and the architecture of the establishment.

The elevation develops in horizontal strata, which accumulate vertically and shift at each level towards the east. The ten classrooms, the workshop, the library documentary center and the adjoining premises are now arranged in successive terraces from the first to the third level. The project is deployed in three horizontal layers: a strip of nursery classes (R + 1), a strip of elementary classes (R + 2), as well as a bright and open workshop extending onto an outdoor terrace (R + 3 ). Subtly designed, the elevation leaves a significant setback to the west, and thus creates a horizontal front of balcony constructions one on top of the other.

Intended to support the renewal of the Grésillons district, the elevation of the Élisabeth Badinter School Group stands out for the simplicity of its volumes, the sophisticated vocabulary of its facades and the unique use of its materials, as well as its modular spaces. The volume of the workshop and the scale of the volumes raised, for example, give the project its strong identity.

Volume floating above the initial plinth, the new architecture of the establishment multiplies the experiments. The materials, chosen according to the typology of the spaces, define both the functional system and the contemporaneity of the architecture, both outside and inside the equipment. The pierced concrete palisade and the copper envelope take on changing colors, while the very bright classrooms are dressed in light wood.

With this beautiful elevation project, the Yoonseux Architectes agency offers contemporary, warm and open school equipment, adapted to new teaching practices.
