Sammode - Company of Application of MODERN Methods of Electric Lighting - is a French family business, specialized in industrial and architectural lighting, known for its very resistant hermetic fluorescent tubes. Founded in 1927 in Châtillon-sur-Saône (88) by Louis Lemaire to manufacture quality lighting, Sammode aims today to design lighting - technical or decorative -, always more efficient. The company turned to innovation and created a state-of-the-art research center - the Sammode Research and Innovation Center -, which it installed in the premises of a former printing works rehabilitated by the talented trio of FREAKS.
Located in the town of Lamotte-Beuvron, in Sologne (41), the Sammode Research and Innovation Center is a research and development center, which complements the marketing and commercial services located in Paris and the production site historically established in the Vosges (88). The company called on the FREAKS agency, created in 2007 by the architects Yves Pasquet, Cyril Gauthier and Guillaume Aubry, to carry out the rehabilitation of an old industrial hangar in a research and development laboratory made up of work rooms. , study and production of prototypes.
In order to meet the requirements of the program and the company's ambitions, the FREAKS team opted for opens paces, generous open office spaces, considered as exchange platforms. Only the laboratory rooms, which require specific technical equipment, are closed and isolated to test the quality, resistance, parameters and standards of each new prototype.
The workspaces, distributed on a single level, are organized into three separate entities of 350 square meters each: an office space and shared spaces, an assembly area and a part dedicated to the prototyping of luminaires. The meeting rooms, similar to glass garden greenhouses, allow collective research to be seen while isolating conversations thanks to innovative acoustic glazing.
With the exception of the four cells built in wooden structure, airtight and light-tight, which house test rooms, the spaces are open, fluid and shared.
Outside, the building now has a silver envelope, an alternation of corrugated stainless steel sheets, full and perforated, which creates games of transparency. The lighting of the façade, produced by Sammode, is an obvious nod to the centre's activities.
The development of a terrace as an extension of the facade, as well as the creation of a green patio and the planting of several plants, also ensure the team working on the site a certain comfort of life.
Rehabilitated, the center is a space conducive to innovation and research, from design to production of new lighting solutions and collections of designer lighting.
