Since the start of the new school year, the former residents of the Jules-Vallès college in Nîmes (30) have put their school bags down in a new positive energy establishment highlighting the Gard stone. An impressive monolith dominating the heights of the town, the Ada Lovelace college is a project well rooted in its time.

For over thirty years it was a question of rebuilding the college in the Mas de Mingue district! Dating from the 1970s, the building of the Jules-Vallès college, unattractive, was clearly no longer suited to the uses of today's students. A memory now distant, thanks to the intervention of the teams of the Montpellier firm A + Architecture and Veilliard & Fasciani who completed last September the construction of the Ada Lovelace college, a brand new set dedicated to the learning of young people of 5th year students. , 4th and 3rd. An architectural addition that helps to restore the image of the district, from which the sector college was then shunned by families in the region.

The 4 square meter project is characterized, on the street side, by a particular use of Gard stone. Used in cassettes on the facade, it is energized by a few metallic elements reflecting sunlight and by large horizontal openings. Resting on concrete pillars, the complex is part of a 674 square meter site also comprising a sports area, a playground, official accommodation and a canteen.

This “new generation” college has a bioecological concept and functioning and is labeled NoWatt and Bâtiment Durable Occitanie Silver level. Careful attention to energy is reflected in the large presence of photovoltaic panels on the roof as well as in the choice of significant materials - local stone and insulation in hemp and wood wool.

Inside, the architects opt for a subtle and licked minimalism. Rough concrete and wood then blend elegantly when signage and recessed lights finish creating the refined identity of the establishment.

A project that announces a new future for the Mas de Mingue district.
