The Piriac-sur-Mer (44) harbor master's office is getting a makeover! THE architectes agency is restructuring this port facility installed in a fin-de-siècle seaside villa and building a new volume: “an inhabited base”, which blends harmoniously into the urban landscape. A successful renovation that enhances both the historical architectural heritage and the urban environment.

The rehabilitation of the harbor master's office in Piriac-sur-Mer consists of the demolition of successive enlargements of the villa, the modernization of a dated architectural complex and the fitting out of new equipment adapted to the current needs of the marina. To do this, THE architects' teams choose to preserve the historic architectural elements - the XNUMXth century building, the stone wall and the associated public spaces - and create a discreet contemporary volume, which dialogues with the volume of the existing buildings.

The new harbor master's office, accessible on one level from the outside, is divided between the new volume and the old house. Soft ramps and stairs, made with the roofs of the ground floor, are used for the development of a high terrace, positioned above the module, which leads to the new entrance to the harbor master's office.
The reception, a large double height hall located on the ground floor of the villa, is now equipped with a pine plywood staircase, which creates a skylight in the center of the building and serves the spaces on the ground -floor and R + 1. The first floor, simply furnished, includes an open space and a secretariat. Under the roof, the top floor, accessible by a flight of stairs, hosts a meeting room that can also be used as a rest room. The furniture, made to measure in pine plywood, evokes the interior of a boat.
The new module and the basement of the historic house house sanitary facilities, changing rooms, showers and a laundromat in its bowels, as well as a workshop and storage spaces, all dedicated to the harbor master's staff.

In addition to its port function, the harbor master's office now assumes its status as a public space at the service of Piriac citizens. Outside, the roof of the base has in fact been designed as a public space in its own right. Covered with white mineral paving, it resonates with the urban environment: regional stone slabs and paving stones, concrete steps and ramps. Dressed in frosted glass, all the facades transform the volume into a “flagship building” after dark.

This atypical urban volume, which also presents itself as an "inhabited base" for the old villa, thus redefines the waterfront of the town.
