Imagined by Foster + Partners and OMA, the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House opened its doors yesterday at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. A play of transparencies and transitions leading the viewer to the ruby red volume.

Arriving at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the visitor is greeted by a large solar canopy, the environmental keystone of the project creating a shaded public space under the merciless Dallas sun. Inside, behind the glass facade, the public spaces are linked together ensuring a smooth transition and guiding the visitor to the bright red glass volume of the auditorium: 2200 seats spread over 6 floors according to a horseshoe plan for more proximity to the scene. The distance separating it from the balcony is indeed reduced to 26 meters.
