William LaChance : St Louis Basketball Court

Art and basketball are definitely a good match! After the realization of III Studio in Pigalle or the series of photographs Short of Ward Roberts, it is the turn of the St Louis Basketball Court of Kinloch (USA) to enjoy a facelift in color, this time realized by the American artist William LaChance.

The town of Kinloch (Missouri), located less than 10 minutes from Ferguson - where riots broke out in 2014 following the shooting of Michael Brown, African American, by a white policeman - still suffers economic spin-offs and especially of this dark episode.

In order to reinvigorate this region and bring people together through sport, in April, the social program "Projet Backbord" commissioned the painter William LaChance to paint a brilliant fresco, spread over three basketball courts, which had until then been abandoned . The ensemble is made up of five geometric compositions made in oil, which, once juxtaposed to each other, form one and the same coherent work. To this explosion of multicolored aplats are added marks to the white floors - markers essential for the players - as well as panels, also dressed brush strokes of LaChance.

Bringing life to the village, this sports ground also has the merit of valorising the county which, until then, was known only for very sad business. Now, when we talk about Kinloch, it may be to playgrounds atypical, which unite and groom an entire community.

A realization as beautiful in its execution as in its approach!
