Jacob Jonas : #CamerasandDancers

The American choreographer Jacob Jonas combines dance, photography and architecture in a unique project: #CamerasandDancers, a virtual exhibition in which several snapshots are posted each month on Instagram, where bodies undulate in strong architectural environments. The opportunity to educate users of the social network to art, in its plural definition.

For a world as connected as ours, why not make Instagram, a gallery accessible to all? This is the question that Jacob Jonas, director of the company of the same name, who is launching in 2017 #CamerasandDancers, a photographic series embellished every month with pictures of one or several dancers in action in front of iconic buildings, interacting with them.

The idea quickly gives rise to an "InstaMeet", a meeting of users who, together, capture no stuff, pirouettes and other entrechats. Shots that are then relayed by influencer partners and renowned American institutions such as the Kennedy Center, the New York Public Library or the Royal Ballet. A process in phase with its time that uses not only these media as a means of dissemination but also as a platform for expression, aimed at enhancing dance and architecture.

"These artists understood the buildings in a very significant way. Working with Jacob Jonas and his company on this project was extremely important. This really helps to elevate the architecture to a whole new level. " Lorcan O'Herlihy, architect

The city, in its most raw, is then poetized by the finesse of athletes who pose in front of the camera, like so many stops on images. An approach that also allows to rediscover the urban space and to dwell on the beauty of its lines and its play of light, details to which city dwellers do not necessarily pay attention to everyday life.

An astonishing and moving project that offers a new life to the iconic works of the United States.
