Quintessenz : Kagkatikas Secret

Whether working in the city center, in a museum or in the ruins of a lost Greek island, Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic, aka Quintessenz awaken by their facilities the public space like the most bucolic landscapes. A look back at the work of these two artists based in Berlin, through their latest achievement: Kagkatikas Secret.

From afar, one would think a rainbow stranded in a collapsed house. Others, probably addicted to the physical sciences or Pink Floyd, could see an optical prism dispersing the light. Some, finally, could this vision remember their grandmother laying the laundry in the wind ... These last are also the least removed from the truth, because Kagkatikas Secret - the work installed in 2018 on the Greek island of Paxi and signed Quintessenz - actually consists of a multitude of squares of translucent and colored fabrics, suspended in the void according to the nuances of the spectrum of colors perceptible by the human eye.

If this achievement is as graphic as it is pleasant to watch, it's because the German duo is not at his first attempt. It is indeed five years since the two friends raged across the Rhine, since they met at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim. Their purpose? Use color, which they consider a material in its own right, to create new spaces and play with the existing architecture. A vision they exported last year to Les Baux-de-Provence (13) via their installation Lost Paradise, and that we hope to be able to admire again in the Hexagon ...
