James Casebere : Maquettes architecturales

"Did you know," the wide shots of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) actually present 3-sized thumbnails? A feat in the universe of the model that the American architect and artist James Casebere did not wait to see happen for him too, create universes (almost) livable fantasy and colorful combining reduced models and photographic work.

Based in New York (USA), the practice of visual artist James Casebere, now aged 66 years, is at the crossroads of many disciplines, from architecture to photography through sculpture and history of the 'art. Executing for more than 40 years, the artist explores different fields, creating small singular universes in each of his creative cycles.
His work is also in the largest international institutions: the MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Whtiney Museum or the Tate Gallery, all snapped up the timeless and astonishing achievements of James Casebere.

The latest project? A series that pays homage to the modern architecture and the striking nuances of the works of the Mexican architect Luis Barrágan. Various formats that all meet the same common point: the presence of water on which Casebere's colorful miniature works seem to float, reflecting in the wave gracefully. There are also the marked and dramatic lines and the special geometry that characterize Barrágan's works. "My first work simply placed an object in the center of the image. But, some time later, I decided to remove the object in the hope that the viewer takes place there, finds its marks. In the end, I realized that what mattered was the space, the light, the color and the texture. " says the artist.

It is true that we, we see well in his small houses, surrounded by the sea.
