Following a season developed around the 2016 cosmomorphy by the Espace Cerveau laboratory - initiated by Ann Veronica Janssens and Nathalie Ergino -, the Château de Rentilly (77) is now hosting the exhibition "From immersion to osmosis, Chaosmose #2 ". An event that proposes a meeting between Earth and cosmos, in a meticulously studied spatial context.

Who says castle does not necessarily say Versailles. Indeed, although surrounded by English and French gardens, the Château de Rentilly seems to come more from a sci-fi film than from a cape and sword novel. Restored in 2014 by the Bona-Lemercier agency, associated with the visual artist Xavier Veilhan and the scenographer Alexis Bertrand, the set literally translates the famous ice cream gallery of Louis XIV thanks to a double skin in stainless steel and mirror without tain wrapping the whole of the postwar building.
If the place had already dazzled - and it is the case to say it! - the Muuuz editorial team at the "L" exhibitionit is now with a very different event organized by the frac Ile-de-France that Rentilly has attracted our attention ...

The castle, second exhibition space of the frac, this time welcomes conceptual achievements from the Institute of Contemporary Art Villeurbanne / Rhône-Alpes - which includes 1800 creations of French and international artists - and private collections in a project with an enigmatic name. "From immersion to osmosis, Chaosmose #2" directed by Nathalie Ergino proposes a meeting between heritage and experimentation in an open museum dedicated to contemporary innovation. An exhibition related to its walls that offers a sensitive path around a selection of "cosmomorphic" works, tracing a link between the living and non-living forms of our world.

The exhibition is divided into two parts, spread over the two levels of exposure of the castle. Entering the reception by the basement, the visitor accesses the first level, entitled "Immersion". The slender, dark room, whose openings with opaque filters isolate the viewer from the outside world, makes it possible to focus attention on the works, mostly photographic and videographic, of this ground floor. Thus, the visitor is plunged into a macrocosm of the living seizing, sometimes confronted with a sensitive and improbable gesture - as is the case with the sculptural work of Joachim Koester (Variations of Incomplete Open Cubes, 2011, filmed in 16mm) -, sometimes immersed in an organic universe filmed on such a scale that it seems to document a chimerical world, yet good (Journey to the center Michel Blazy and Présage 04/10/2014 22h09 from Hicham Berrada)
The place operates, thanks to these changes of scale, back and forth between body and consciousness. An increased sensation when confronted with the central space of the room, constituting an allegory of the white cube. Flooded with a light that imitates in real time the exterior atmosphere of the castle, the art lover is here confronted with a dreamlike work, the Psychic Garden of Berdaguer & Péjus, lit by a multitude of neon lights.
This space echoes the second level of the exhibition, this time devoted to "Osmosis", a negative reproduction of its neighbor from below. The visitor thus finds, in the middle of a luminous space, a black room in which a film by Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Spiral Forest (Kingdom of All the Animals and All Beasts Is My Name) is projected. This second stage contrasts explicitly with the first stage of the exhibition thanks in particular to large openings made possible by the elevation of the level that connect the works exposed to the external environment. The particular scenography also involves an acoustic treatment in the eastern part, thus allowing the graphic works of Giuseppe Penone and Minot-Gormezano to be connected to the sound device of Maria Thereza Alves, Floral Song (2018). A wide artistic expression panel allowing viewers to enjoy the immersive manifestation through all their senses.

The peculiarity of this exhibition is that it adapts its schedules to the changing light exposure of the seasons. "Chaosmose", which will take place until July, will therefore see its opening hours modified accordingly.
