Typoase de Dominik Schwarz

With Typoase installation, the young designer Dominik Schwarz gives us a very personal version of the public bench. Breaking with the laws of its kind, it uses other materials, offers other forms suggests other uses.

On the occasion of the festival Time CodeDominik Schwarz, design student at the Free University of Bolzano in Italy, imagined Typoase, a design installation in an urban setting.

At the heart of the city, in Piazza Tribunale, he proposed and passersby an installation consisting of several benches.

The benches are made of steel grids filled in structures of stone, topped by grassy plates and fitted with wooden seating.

In the form of letters and placed side by side, they form the word "TIME". The installation invites passers in effect to stop for a moment during their travel in the city, sit down and take their time.

But this project is not just a simple typographic game, benches designed by Dominik Schwarz doing indeed show an unusual functional richness. With their letter shapes, they multiply interiorities and interstices, as many spaces where the user can sit, sit, or sit down. Playing on the heights, the vertical and horizontal components of the letters turn into partitions, shelves, in high and low seating.
