Événement : Nouvelles Vagues au Centre Naval de Toulon

The Pompidou Center exhibits outside the walls an impressive collection of seats that have marked the history of design at the annual Festival Design Parade at the Naval Center of Toulon (83). The exhibition is organized in a colorful scenography by interior designer India Mahdavi.

The Pompidou Center besieges the Naval Center of Toulon during its "Nouvelles Vagues" exhibition on the occasion of the Design Parade festival - an annual meeting bringing together established artists and the young guard of creation. Until November 24 next, the cultural institution in Paris presents sixty seats all more iconic than the others, signed by about forty designers, 1920 years to the present day.

Du Armchair (1923) by Robert Mallet-Stevens on the chair Panton 1999 from Verner Panton, through the Ribbon Chair 582 (1966) by Pierre Paulin, these masterpieces of twentieth century furniture take us back to the history of the emancipation of society through the evolution of his postures in a setting planted by the French interior designer India Mahdavi.

Under the sun exactly, the wave of the first departures on holidays at the dawn of the 1920 years marks the beginning of the rise of sunbeds and deckchairs which the modernists will not take long to seize. The famous LC4 (1928) imagined by the architects Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret find themselves alongside the Isokon Long Chair (1932) by Marcel Breuer - one of the first to experiment with aluminum - on the platform decorated with swimming pool stripes punctuated with red, yellow and green, reminiscent of the aesthetics of the Mediterranean blinds.

On the upper floors, it is all the fantasy and exuberance of the 1960 years that we find in the scenography with wavy curves in an explosion of vibrant colors, like the crazy seats of that time. The genius of the Italians Joe Colombo and Gaetano Pesce appears on the famous Flesh tube (1969) posed not far from the Mamma (or UP5), while polyvinyl chloride - the famous PVC - is exposed on the few models of inflatable chairs that find place among this string of creations.

A retrospective to die for!
