From June 14 to 19, 2022 Laffanour Galerie Downtown participates in the 16th edition of Design Miami Basel 2022, placed under the theme of "The Golden Age", and showcases a forest of "Akari" lights by the American-born artist. Japanese Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988).
Accompanied by emblematic pieces of furniture from designers Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé, the Downtown Gallery reveals a poetic and minimalist scenography.
Ovoid-shaped rice paper lampshades float above a black 1958 “Free Forms” table set alongside Charlotte Perriand's famous “Nuage” bookcase and furniture by Jean Prouvé.
Always very involved in the scenography of his stands at fairs, François Laffanour imagines a delicate setting preciously preserving the most beautiful pieces of his specialty. The suspensions by Isamu Noguchi presented at Miami Design Basel 2022 are originals from the Steph Simon gallery which introduced Isamu Noguchi to France and Europe in the mid-50s.
The bench made by José Zanine Caldas is also one of the essentials that will be presented during this 16th edition.
Indeed, since 2007, François Laffanour has been working in the archives of the Steph Simon gallery in order to authenticate and research collectibles of modern French design.
