Michael Malapert : Mon Coco

A few steps from the Place de la République in Paris (11e), what was a dull and tired bistro is now a trendy cocktail and cocktail bar of the capital: My Coco. Arranged by the interior designer Michael Malapert, the warm and eclectic place draws its inspirations from the famous urban forecourt that faces it.

Whether festive or protest, the Place de la Republique de Paris is undeniably a popular gathering place, quickly becoming for many Parisians a symbol of fraternity after the terrible events that occurred in the capital in 2015.

It is from this public space, with mixed uses, that the interior architect, in charge of rehabilitation, Michael Malapert - to whom we already have the facilities of the BAM karaoke club on Parmentier Street (11e) et Le Nemours café, a stone's throw from the Louvre (1er). The project manager then transforms the dilapidated bistro into "A place of life, in line with the Place de la République, which is the expression of the energy that emanates from it"as he delivers it.

To do this, the establishment of three levels - including one in the basement, where are the technical areas - located at the corner of Boulevard Voltaire and Avenue de la Republique has been equipped with large windows Full height glazed windows and large enclosed terraces that can accommodate up to 120 people.

The ground floor is occupied by a longitudinal hall with a covered 80 capacity where a single room is arranged in an L shape around the kitchen and the white marble counter of 10 meters long, facing the street. . A luxuriant vegetation installed by the ARÔM studio mixes with the many Republican winks such as the Gallic rooster, graphically diverted into the mosaic of the ground, or in a wall mural, arranged at the back of the room, in which the street artist Nasty turns the table La liberté guidant le peuple, made by Delacroix in 1830.

Further proof of this eclecticism, the different textures of the walls, from velvet to wood, through leather, are combined with ease with furniture also very varied styles, as the seats made-to-measure by the Parisian house Drucker, a an unexpected reissue of the Jeanneret chair or impressive 1,80 meter-high metal pendants by Magic Circus. All of this, enriched by writings in cleverly distilled pink neons.

Upstairs, where the atmosphere is quieter and subdued, there is a space with a boudoir and cocktail bar dressed in padded leather. Large armchairs in rust and ocher velvet, arranged around black marble coffee tables, welcome night owls here.

A lively realization, to discover around a lunch or one of the many elixirs specially developed by Mon Coco.
